The Glycolic form of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) is abundant in cane sugar. AHA's break down the protein bonds acting as "glue" that holds skin cells together. This allows the dead skins cells to more easily fall away to expose healthier, more radiant skin beneath. A compound's effectiveness to penetrate the skin is largely dependent on bioavailability. Bioavailability is influenced primarily by molecular size and the glycolic form of AHA has the smallest molecular size of all, making it the most effective for exfoliation.
